The Erlanger Health System, incorporated as the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital Authority, a non-profit, public benefit corporation registered in the State of Tennessee, is an academic system of hospitals, physicians, and medical services based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Erlanger was founded through the generosity of a French nobleman in 1889. Baron Frederic Emile d'Erlanger, who held financial interests in a number of railroads in this region, donated $5,000 for a new hospital.
