Saginaw is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Saginaw County. The city of Saginaw and Saginaw County are both in the area known as Mid-Michigan. In 1819, a permanent settlement was established, and families began to arrive in Saginaw. 1819 also saw the treaty of Saginaw signed. It was three years later, in 1822, that Fort Saginaw was established, only to be abandoned the next year by the military. In 1836, Saginaw City, population 400, was founded by Norman Little. By the middle of the century, the population grew to 900, due in part to the German immigrants who established agricultural settlements in the area.
