Smyrna is a town in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Smyrna's population was 39,974 at the 2010 census and estimated to be 51,586 in 2019. In 2007, U.S. News & World Report listed Smyrna as one of the best places in the United States to retire. Smyrna is part of the Nashville metropolitan statistical area. The town of Smyrna first incorporated in 1869; however, its original charter was rescinded by the state a few years later. In 1915, the town incorporated, adopting a mayor and a commission form of government. The Town continues to operate under a private act charter today.
