John Muir Health is a hospital network headquartered in Walnut Creek, California and serving Contra Costa County, California and surrounding communities. It was formed in 1997 from the merger of John Muir Medical Center and Mount Diablo Medical Center. A short stint in private practice in internal medicine with Harold S. Robinson in Walnut Creek proved pivotal; Epstein, Robinson and four other local physicians led the effort to establish in 1965 the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. John Muir includes a network of more than 1,000 primary care and specialty physicians, more than 6,000 employees, medical centers in Concord and Walnut Creek, including Contra Costa County's only trauma center, and a Behavioral Health Center.
