King Soopers is a supermarket brand of Kroger located in the Rocky Mountains of the United States. It started as its own brand and, today, is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. King Soopers has a significant presence in the state of Colorado on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. Lloyd King founded the Colorado-based supermarket chain, now owned by Kroger, in Arvada in 1947. King had wanted to name his shop after himself and his two sons Lew and Larry — hence the "King." The unique spelling of "Soopers" came from an unusual source: the Archie comics series.
