This position involves directing the waste flow, collecting tipping fees, and operating computer program to keep the records of wastes that enter the landfill. - - This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. - - Typical Duties Stops and weighs incoming traffic, print charge ticket or collect cash as required. Requests the customer to disclose the contents of loads, and direct to appropriate disposal site. Performs random waste load inspection. Supply monthly waste data to the Superintendent. Performs custodial work of the scale house. Must know procedures involved if hazardous wastes be brought into the landfill. Must be familiar with contingency plan actions for emergencies. May be required to work weekends and holidays. Answers telephone calls, respectively answers questions from the public, respectfully provides customer service over the phone and in person. Schedules appointments with vendors, departments and coordinates activities with staff to assist as needed. Maintains records for various regulatory agencies Receives, processes, and distributes incoming mail. Requirements Minimum Qualifications. No specific educational or experience requirements. Licenses and Certificates. Valid New Mexico Driver's License with appropriate endorsements, or be able to obtain in 6 months. Landfill Operator Certificate-(or able to obtain within 6 months)HAZWHOPER Certificate-Preferred. Knowledge Skills and Abilities. Knowledge of:Department rules and regulations. Handling hazardous materials. Skills in:Computers, printers, spreadsheets, and miscellaneous office equipment. Ability to:Perform functions with minimal supervision; understand and follow basic safety precautions, rules and regulations;Interact diplomatically with public, establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationship with others. Physical Requirements. Moderately work involving frequent standing, walking, balancing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and squatting; pushing, pulling and lifting items weighing up to 100 pounds. Working Conditions. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies. Essential duties are predominantly performed indoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions. Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures, travel from site to site, work around traffic and heavy construction equipment. Use of safety shoes, glasses and other equipment is required
