In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and Trauma Program Manager (TPM) develop and coordinate components of the Trauma Service performance improvement program in order to continuously improve care, provide safe, quality care and maintain Mercy Medical Center’s Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center accreditation. The Performance Improvement Coordinator’s primary focus is the Trauma Registry data and benchmarking reports from Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Works with the Trauma Medical Director and Program Manager to develop, implement and manage the Trauma Service Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) to assure optimal clinical care, competency, and outcomes for trauma patients across the continuum of care. Monitors and evaluates the quality of clinical care for trauma patients through concurrent and retrospective medical records review, direct observation, and trauma registry reports, communicating clinical complications and areas for improvement to TPM and TMD. Develops, conducts and leads continuous quality and operational improvement projects through data extraction reports. Has working knowledge of the American College of Surgeons trauma center criteria and care standards to maintain adult and pediatric trauma center accreditation. Audits quality and operational processes to assure compliance with standards of the American College of Surgeons and directs strategic plans to correct issues that arise with compliance. Reviews clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness and provides education to care providers as indicated. Responsible for the Trauma Registry and utilizes the information for performance improvement, including TQIP Benchmark reporting. Coordinates and participates in the trauma performance improvement committees including monthly PIPS and multidisciplinary conferences. Participates in and prepares performance improvement documentation for American College of Surgeons trauma center verification visits. Participates in state and local trauma performance improvement networks, serving as Mercy’s representative. Develops monthly and quarterly reports from data input. Works independently with limited supervision in accordance with the Iowa Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center Policies, and Clinical Practice Guidelines using professional judgment.. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Computer Skills required including Microsoft Office Possess a current license as a registered nurse issued by the State of Iowa. BSN preferred. TNCC provider/instructor certification required.
