Essential to the success of the security program is an on site Security Guard Supervisor. The Security Guard Supervisor will manage a daily security operation and directly supervise and train 27 Housing and Residence Life Security Guards located in fifteen residential facilities/areas. The guards are involved in protecting people, state and personal property for a residential student population of approximately 6,000. The Security Guard Supervisor reports directly to the Director of HRL Business Services and serves as primary liaison between professional staff and Security Guard staff. Minimum Education/ Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in security, enforcement, or protection work. May require valid N. C. driver’s license. Essential Job Duties Training and Staff Development. The Assistant Security Guard Supervisor leads the training and development of Security Guard staff to ensure consistent security operations across residential facilities. This includes onboarding new employees, providing ongoing coaching and instruction, and maintaining training materials that reflect current policies and procedures. The role ensures staff are prepared to respond to emergencies, communicate effectively, and perform their responsibilities in alignment with Housing and Residence Life and University expectations. Supervision and Leadership. This position provides direct supervision and leadership to Security Guard staff while maintaining a professional, accountable, and policy-driven work environment. The Assistant Supervisor monitors staff performance, provides guidance and feedback, and supports staff during routine operations as well as high-stress situations or emergencies. Candidates should have experience supervising full-time staff, preferably within security operations or in an overnight work environment. Professionalism and Customer Service. The Assistant Security Guard Supervisor promotes a customer service–focused approach to residential security by ensuring Security Guards provide professional, responsive assistance to students, visitors, and campus partners. This role supports a welcoming and service-oriented environment while coordinating with University Police, emergency response partners, and Housing and Residence Life staff to address concerns and maintain a safe residential experience. Other Work Responsibilities Communication. The Assistant Security Guard Supervisor serves as a key liaison between Security Guard staff, Housing and Residence Life leadership, University Police, and other campus partners to support residential security operations. This role ensures information is communicated clearly, coordinates responses to incidents or concerns, and assists residents and visitors while supporting university reporting and conduct processes when needed. Planning and Scheduling. The Assistant Security Guard Supervisor supports the coordination of daily security operations to help ensure consistent staffing coverage across residential facilities. This role assists with maintaining Security Guard schedules, monitoring coverage needs, and supporting operational planning during peak periods such as holidays and summer programs. Through effective organization and oversight, the position helps maintain reliable security operations across the residential community. Security, Patrol, and Enforcement. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Assistant Security Guard Supervisor actively participates in security operations by patrolling residential areas, monitoring conditions, and enforcing University and Housing policies alongside the Security Guards they supervise. This role responds to incidents, identifies safety concerns, and supports emergency response efforts while maintaining a visible security presence across campus housing facilities. Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/ Education Preference will be given to candidates with experience supervising staff in security, public safety, or similar operational environments, particularly in overnight or shift-based operations. Experience in higher education—especially within Student Affairs or Housing and Residence Life—is strongly preferred. Candidates with a background in staff training, incident response, policy enforcement, and collaboration with campus safety partners will be well suited for this role, along with strong communication and customer service skills when working with students and campus partners.
