This posting is only for current internal City of Portland employees. The City of Portland, Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is hiring for a Senior Environmental Planner (SEP). The SEP is responsible for the planning of the City's natural areas, and has the following primary duties:Developing and writing plans and strategies for natural area acquisition, restoration, and management. Leading the effort to establish a level of service for natural areas for all Portlanders. Interpreting and at times, revising environmentally-related zoning code language that pertains to PP&R's huge property portfolio (over 12,000 acres). Acting as liaison to urban forestry staff and natural area stewardship field staff. Site planning of natural areas on small locally-serving properties like Maricara and Crystal Springs, and large regional-serving properties like River View and Forest Park. Representing PP&R on efforts like the Climate Action Plan, River Plan, Stormwater Management Plan, and other citywide efforts. Managing the Salmon Safe Program (with City Nature staff) and View Preservation Program (with Urban Forestry)Trail planning, particularly regional trails that enter into or are nearby natural areas Other duties as described in the job classification, as assigned. To Qualify
Applicants must meet each of the following qualifications per HRAR 7.01: 1. Hold regular status in this classification 2. Passed probationary period. Or 3. Hold limited duration status in this classification. The following are the knowledge, skills and abilities that the bureau has identified as critical and your resume should include/highlight these areas. Experience managing large, complex, and politically sensitive natural resource projects. Experience performing difficult and complex technical research and analysis of natural resource issues, evaluating alternatives and recommending actions. Experience collaborating, and seeking balanced solutions, with internal and external stakeholders, regarding the protection of resources and people use and enjoyment of natural areas. Knowledge and Experience utilizing natural resource management practices, with expertise in one or more of these fields: ecology, environmental science, geography, urban and regional planning, and/or other closely related fields.
