The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented and technical-focused Property Tax Data Clerk II to join our team. Under the general supervision of the System Support Assistant Director, the Property Tax Data Clerk II is responsible for all system production tasks and activities related to the annual property tax cycle, with a primary focus on processing HCAD Certified and Supplemental/ Correction data files. About the Tax Assessor-Collector The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government, handling various financial and administrative tasks, including: Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities. Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration, issue license plates, and handle vehicle title transfers, including the collection of associated fees. Voter Registration: Oversee voter registration within the county, issue voter registration certificates, and maintain an accurate voter registration roll. Additional Revenue Collection: Collecting certain fees, fines, and revenues related to permits or state mandates, depending on the county’s needs. Duties and Responsibilities. Conduct tax roll analysis and reconciliation for all appraisal rolls loaded into the property tax system. Administer agricultural property tax rollback assessments received from appraisal districts. Review, process, and manage appraisal district account value litigation cases. Utilizing File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to securely manage and deliver appraisal district reports and other file types to participating jurisdictions. Generate, validate and upload weekly and monthly client files via FTP. Perform detailed complex account research to identify the issue and recommend corrective measures. Complete annual public improvement districts administration fees load process and validation. Compile and prepare all required documentation for the property tax system annual and 6-month security audit. Managed incoming W-9 requests from customers across email, fax, and mail channels. Requirements
Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution within the U.S. Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a professional office environment, with experience in Data Analysis, or Production Support. Excellent reading comprehension and verbal/written communication skills are required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and related applications for data analysis, documentation, and communication. Hands-on experience with File. Zilla for data extraction, system navigation, and file management. Maintains high accuracy in data processing, reporting, and documentation. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with a focus on efficiency and precision. Capable of working autonomously while contributing effectively in collaborative environments. Willingness to work special hours as needed to meet operational demands. Clear and professional verbal and written communication across departments and with external stakeholders. Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage workflows, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Basic knowledge of Property Tax Appraisal and Collection process. Position Schedule and Hours:Monday through Friday | 7:45 am – 4:45 pm Subject to early mornings, late evenings and weekends. Work Location:Harris County Administration Building | 1001 Preston St. | Houston, TX 77002 Working Conditions, Mental & Physical Demands. Typically, an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise level. Largely sedentary role with minor physical effort required, however, it may at times involve long periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, lifting up to 10 lbs. or similar activities (e.g., filing, delivering, sorting). Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems. A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis. Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination).
