CVS Health’s Adjudication & Client Experience Engineering organization is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Development Engineer to join our Application Production Support Team, providing Level 1–3 support for critical Rx. Claim, AS/400 business applications. This role is essential in ensuring the reliability, stability, and continuous improvement of systems that directly serve our PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Management) business customers. As a Software Development Engineer, you will work closely with fellow engineers as well as product, design, and operational teams to triage, troubleshoot, and resolve daily production issues. You will be responsible for addressing application incidents, identifying root causes, implementing permanent fixes, and driving process improvements to reduce recurring issues. Your work will support business continuity, customer satisfaction, and the overall operational excellence of our digital platforms. In addition to support responsibilities, you will play an active role in facilitating Break fix existing codebases to improve application stability, scalability, and performance as our membership and transaction volumes continue to grow. This includes designing and implementing new features, contributing to technical architecture, and helping advance the engineering roadmap across our adjudication and client experience systems. This position requires strong technical expertise, solid problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a high-demand production environment. You will help guide technical direction, contribute to engineering innovation, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality digital solutions for our customers. Key Responsibilities. Lead Level 1–3 application production support for Rx. Claim business customers, including monitoring, incident resolution, and proactive system health checks. Analyze and troubleshoot complex application and systems issues; perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions. Collaborate with engineering, product, QA, operations, and business teams to ensure timely and accurate resolution of production incidents. Code fix, optimize, and improve existing codebases to enhance system reliability, stability, and scalability. Perform debugging, and validation across distributed application environments. Handle Job failures, Batch processing, Job scheduling, and queues in AS 400 Environment. Participate in on-call rotations as needed to support critical production services. Contribute to the technical roadmap, driving innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering ecosystem. Document solutions, operational procedures, and knowledge-base articles to support cross-team learning and operational excellence. Required Qualifications 12 years of experience in application production support (Level 1–3), incident management, and troubleshooting of enterprise systems . years of Software Development Engineering experience using RPGILE, SYNON, COBOL, CL, QUERY 400, SQL, Aldon, Hawkeye, X-Analysis . Experience with distributed systems, APIs, databases, and cloud technologies (Azure and GCP). Familiarity with monitoring tools, logging frameworks, and IT operations processes. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications. Experience in healthcare, pharmacy benefits management, or similar regulated industries. Experience with automation, monitoring, and incident management tools. Knowledge using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Github Copilot, etc) to accelerate development workflows Education: Bachelor’s / Master’s degree Engineer or equivalent experience. Pay Range. The typical pay range for this role is:$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
