Coroner's Office Intern Summer and Fall 2026 – Family Assistance

Family Assistance Interns will primarily focus on the Family Assistance Unit (FAU), with opportunity to rotate through other divisions of the office including investigations, pathology, and administration. Interns will support the FAU by offering emotional support and resources to those who have lost a loved one due to a sudden or unexpected death. Review cases to determine case criteria for FAU involvement. Identify needs and provide resources or make referral to community agencies. Provide follow-up and long-term outreach to those families who have been identified as needing FAU support. FAU Interns will work with investigators, pathology staff, and administrative staff to collect and enter data into the case management system. Track/update resources lists and complete other tasks assigned by the Family Assistance Coordinator. Each participant will be required to create and present a PowerPoint presentation on a chosen topic of interest near the end of the internship. Participants may be exposed to environmental & biological hazards during the internship. Performs related work, as required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of current college enrollment - or college graduation from a nationally accredited college or university. If currently enrolled, a minimum GPA of 3.0 pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in an applicable field of study such as human services, human development, psychology, social work, family studies, or mental health is required.
