Trade Specialist Welder Fabricator. As a Trade Specialist Welder Fabricator at Colorado Springs Utilities, you will be responsible for welding and custom fabrication, including design layout, custom metal fabrication, retro-fitting equipment, and facilitating repairs in a shop (70%) AND field (30%) environment. You will also design, fabricate, and modify parts to make or repair specialized vehicles and equipment by applying knowledge of mechanics, custom fabrication, metal properties, layout, and welding. Please note that this position will be filled at a 44.12/hr pay rate, with an increase to $46.33/ hr after a 6-month probationary period. A day in the life of a Welder may include:Designing fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs. Supporting metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics. Performing repairs and supporting work crews and projects in the field while working off of the weld truck in all weather temperatures and conditions; outdoor projects may include, electric substations, wastewater treatment facilities, construction sites, and water main breaks and projects. Ability to study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances. Applying knowledge of a variety of metalworking machines, including Laser Cutting systems, Plasma Cutting systems, Brake Press, Shears, Piranha. Who You Are:Relevant and progressively responsible welding experience and experience with welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, GTAW)Ability to custom fabricate, including parts layout, design, and production using shop equipment including metal break and shear, plasma cutting table, band saws, and plate rollers. Skill in Fusion 360, and AutoCad is valued. Degree in Welding Technology/ Welding Engineering Technology and/or Utility experience is valued. Possession of a current D 1.1 Structural Certification is valued; and re-certification will be required within the first 6 months of employment - Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required - This position requires operating a Colorado Springs Utilities vehicle and driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle with a GVWR of 16,001 to 26,000 lbs. - This position works a 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, M-F, with OT as business needs necessitate. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:- Exerts 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
