Wake County’s Planning and Development Services Department is seeking an Environmental Consultant to support the County’s post-construction stormwater and watershed management efforts. This position joins a collaborative team of engineers and environmental scientists dedicated to protecting local waterways and strengthening a program recognized nationally for its innovation and service quality. The role offers the opportunity to influence development outcomes, elevate environmental compliance, and contribute to meaningful community impact. As a key contributor within the Watershed Management Division, this role focuses on responsibilities that blend technical fieldwork, program oversight, and customer engagement: - Conducts field inspections of stormwater control measures (SC - Ms) at critical stages of development to verify function, maintenance, and compliance - Reviews annual SCM certifications, updates tracking systems, and ensures accurate program documentation - Performs riparian buffer jurisdictional determinations and assists with mitigation and enforcement in alignment with County and State standards - Provides guidance to contractors, developers, engineers, property owners, and residents on stormwater requirements and best practices - Supports environmental education efforts and contributes to fulfilling locally delegated stormwater program obligations - Prepares clear, complete documentation related to compliance, field observations, enforcement actions, and customer interactions - Participates in initiatives that strengthen program efficiency, improve customer experience, and advance watershed protection goals This role plays an active part in shaping the continued success of Wake County’s award-winning Watershed Management Division.
