JSU - Online at Jackson State University is now accepting applications for the position of JSU - Online Financial Aid Advisor.
Examples of Duties
Provide high-quality customer service to prospective students regarding financial aid eligibility, processes, and availability options. Review, analyze, and process financial aid applications, including FAFSA and institutional forms, to determine financial need and eligibility. Prepare, award, and adjust financial aid packages in accordance with federal, state, donor, and institutional guidelines. Collect, verify, and analyze student financial aid supporting documentation, including unusual or mitigating circumstances, to determine aid eligibility. Plan, organize, and administer loan programs, including Federal Direct Loans, Parent PLUS Loans, Graduate PLUS Loans, and alternative loan programs. Review FAFSA comment codes and resolve issues related to financial aid eligibility and loan processing. Monitor system-generated reports (e.g., grades, enrollment status, award status) to ensure continued compliance with eligibility requirements. Notify students of changes in financial aid eligibility and provide guidance on available options. Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions to assist students and families in understanding financial aid packages and processes. Respond to inquiries from students, parents, guardians, and staff in person and in writing, including resolving complex or sensitive financial aid issues. Maintain accurate records of financial aid transactions, applications, and documentation. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and policies. Assist in preparing reports and documentation for audits, assessments, and compliance reviews. Utilize and update financial aid databases and systems to process applications and maintain records. Assist in the preparation and presentation of financial aid information at meetings, workshops, recruitment events, and outreach activities. Collaborate with admissions, student services, and other campus departments to enhance financial aid processes and improve student access. Maintain a professional, approachable demeanor in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues. Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree, Master's Degree Preferred .-5 years of Financial Aid Experience. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to explain financial aid processes to students and families. Proficient in computer skills, including experience with financial aid software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and maintain confidentiality. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
