The Apprentice Tradesman assists a certified or licensed skilled tradesman in all phases of work associated with a particular trade and is responsible for learning the duties in an apprentice training program. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Duties & Responsibilities: Receives training in performing and assisting with a variety of skilled trades duties as part of an apprenticeship program under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson. Receives training in the installation of electrical wiring, electrical fixtures, and computer cable lines. Receives training in the assembly, installation, and repair of air, gas, and waste disposal systems in accordance with specifications and plumbing codes. Receives training in building and repairing wooden structures and their structural components. Receives training in performing acetylene gas and electrical arc welding on equipment requiring repair. Receives training in bricklaying and masonry work. Receives training in performing a variety of interior and exterior painting tasks. Assists skilled trades workers with contacting customers, providing information and schedules for ongoing work, or leaving courtesy notices when customers are unavailable. Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: Knowledge of basic measuring tools, equipment, and materials used in the various skilled trades. Ability to perform manual labor under various working conditions, use hand and power tools in various working conditions, understand and follow oral and written instructions, and communicate information and ideas in various environments. Skill in the use, operation, and care of tools and machinery. General Days/ Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. Additional hours as requested and/or needed. Regular and reliable attendance
