Work is performed part time for Shelby County Tourism and Events Department, as well as various other County Departments as needed, and involves manual labor of a semi-skilled nature. This includes both heavy and light physical labor to support a wide variety of County activities, including loading and unloading of various equipment resources to event locations across Shelby County. Work hours will be limited to no more than 32 hours per week and may consist of different days, including some weekends. Some daily schedules may consist of 10 hour shifts when necessary. This position is an on call, as needed, basis with no benefits. The hours worked will vary according to scheduled events. Shifts will normally be scheduled in advance if you are available to work. Work volume is seasonal and may have periods of weeks without work. There is no guarantee of work every week or a set number of hours per week. Operates vehicles including, but not limited to, small single-axle dump trucks, trucks with trailers, or flatbed trucks. Operates equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, tractors, bobcats, fork lifts, etc., associated with event preparation and setup. Provides routine information to event organizers, hosts, and participants upon request or refers questions to proper personnel. Routine housekeeping tasks at various sites in preparation for, during, and at the conclusion of various events. Must maintain professional behavior and deliver excellent customer service. Assists departments by performing assigned tasks including, but not limited to, loading and unloading event-related resources (tables, chairs, traffic cones, road barriers, tents, signs, UTVs,) delivery and set-up of event stage, and delivery and set-up of portable bleachers. Assists departments by hanging signs and banners as needed. Assists events personnel with set-up of County equipment as needed. Assists in promoting Discover Shelby initiatives. Assists with communication of needs between event personnel and County employees. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Requirements. Valid Driver’s license and acceptable driving record Work experience operating equipment and trucks Willing to work when scheduled outside normal business hours and on weekends and holidays as required. Willingness to work outdoors and in extreme weather conditions. Preferred Requirements. Class A or B CDL
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather extremes. Work is a maximum of 32 hours per week. Work volume is seasonal and may have periods of weeks without work. Hours can extend to three 10-hour days. Physical Requirements: Requires lifting up to 40 pounds without assistance, carrying, climbing, and pushing. Requires the ability to bend, walk, and use hands and fingers to operate tools. Must have good vision to read plans and manuals and make necessary installation, adjustments, or repairs.
