As a Probation and Parole Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting public safety and supporting offender rehabilitation within the community. This position is responsible for supervising and investigating criminal offenders assigned to the district office, ensuring compliance with probation, parole, and pardon conditions while fostering positive behavioral change. Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR - Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR - Six years of full-time experience in any field; ORA bachelor's degree. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms. Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties: As a Probation and Parole Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting public safety and supporting offender rehabilitation through supervision, guidance, and enforcement of court-ordered conditions. In this role, you will:Supervise felony and misdemeanor offenders, providing counseling and referrals to community resources to address social adjustment needs. Enforce conditions of supervision and manage all aspects of the violation process. Conduct comprehensive criminal justice background investigations and provide recommendations to courts, parole and pardon boards, and executive offices. Perform arrests, transport violators, prepare reports, and participate in probable cause and revocation hearings. Determine, collect, and manage victim restitution, supervision fees, fines, and other court-related payments. Coordinate placement in treatment programs (substance abuse, mental health, vocational) and provide crisis intervention and support services. Ensure all duties are performed in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards and required timelines. Administer and evaluate drug screenings in accordance with established procedures. Supervise community service activities and monitor offender participation and compliance. Conduct audits and disciplinary hearings for correctional and community rehabilitation facilities, ensuring contract and operational compliance. Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: Probational or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of the Louisiana State Government. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment. Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Probation and Parole Officer 1, 2, or 3, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. Compensation: The Probation and Parole Officer 1-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $1,872.00 Bi-weekly. The Probation and Parole Officer 2-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $2,003.20 Bi-weekly. The Probation and Parole Officer 3-Adult has a Special Entrance Rate of $2,213.60 Bi-weekly. Other Important Information:This Agency is a Drug-Free Workplace.
