The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a Wildland Fire Coordinator 1 to work within NW Region DNR. This position coordinates and administers fire training and supports Fire Protection Districts responsibilities for five counties. Additionally, this position works closely with the statewide fire training leadership in the development of statewide training programs. The duty station for this position is in Sedro-Woolley, WA, in the scenic Skagit Valley. World-class outdoor recreation opportunities abound in the area. The main entrance to North Cascades National Park is only 1 hour drive to the east. The San Juan Islands can be accessed from Anacortes, just a 45-minute drive to the west. Additional recreation opportunities can be found in the surrounding Mt. Baker/ Snoqualmie National Forest and state forest trust lands. For more urban experiences, Seattle, WA. and Vancouver, B. C. are each only an hour and a half drive away. Duties Responsibilities:This position supports the Mission and Goals of the DNR through the planning, coordination, prioritization, and implementation of Wildland Fire Training for DNR staff and Fire Service partners from five Counties within the NW Region. Qualifications Required Qualifications: (All experience can be gained concurrently)(2)Two years of progressively more complex, professional work in wildland fire suppression, wildland fire training, or another closely related field.(2)Two years’ experience with PMS 310-1, Incident Qualification System, or Field Manager Course Guide.(2)Two years of experience working within the Incident Command System. Required Competencies: Accustomed to working with difficult external partners and/or customers to minimize conflict and maintain good customer relationships. Accustomed to prioritizing and performing multiple tasks concurrently, handling interruptions appropriately, returning to incomplete tasks, and demonstrating cooperation and mutual respect. Competent to develop and instruct classes on wildland fire suppression activities, including knowledge of wildland fire behavior and fire line safety awareness. Proficiency in computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, and the ability to develop complex documents in support of the program objectives. Compassionate Communication. Inspire Others. Commitment to Excellence. Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:The primary work environment is the Northwest Region office. This position is eligible for hybrid telework agreements with prior approval from their direct supervisor. If the region fire situation requires it, this position may be asked to be available to respond to fires in regions such as an IC, Single Resource Boss, or TFLD/ STEN. Travel is usually done only during fire season, emergency management meetings, staff meetings, and /or for the purpose of training, and may include overnight trips. A current, valid driver’s license and two years of driving experience. Additionally, DNR requires state drivers to possess a license that is not suspended, revoked, or restricted (for example, Occupational/ Restricted Driver Licenses or requiring ignition interlock devices). This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years. Desired Qualifications:A bachelor’s degree in a natural resources field AND at least two years of experience implementing a specific wildland fire program (the specific program is designated for each position).
