The Laboratory Equipment Specialist provides research equipment technical support services for multiple laboratories on and off campus that includes preventative maintenance, diagnostics and corrective maintenance, new equipment utility compatibility evaluations, failure analysis and corrective course of action to ensure minimum adverse impact to research studies, equipment setups, teardowns and storage configurations. The Laboratory Equipment Specialist works within Research Facilities Operations. The department operates as a cohesive unit to provide superior service to the research community. Principal Responsibilities: Manages vendor-recommended preventative maintenance for research equipment across multiple labs to ensure reliable operation. Evaluates and services equipment to minimize downtime and reduce research disruption. Monitors alarms and performs corrective actions to prevent damage to experiments or samples. Provides initial diagnostics for equipment failures and assesses impact on research. Oversees equipment inventory, tracks usage, and manages reassignment or disposal. Tracks equipment life cycles and forecasts budget needs for replacements. Conducts emergency generator and Regulation IV testing to protect experiments and equipment. Manages service contracts for compliance with scope and budget. Coordinates vendor access and monitors work per policies. Handles compressed gas tank services for lab setups and replacements. Maintains skills to operate new equipment and updates training regularly. Monitors utility equipment, logs conditions, manages start-up/shut-down, and reports status. Provides on-call support, including emergency response for sample preservation. Qualifications. Education:High School Diploma or equivalent experience required Vocational/ Technical Diploma, Trade or Military School preferred A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Engineering, Electronics, or a related field, or equivalent experience, is preferred Work Experience: 3 years Experience in engineering technology or equipment repair and maintenance in a Clinical, Military, and/or Research Environment required Licenses and Certifications:Preferred certifications: Research equipment vendor, Field Service Technician, Los Angeles Boiler Operator License, Medical Gas Maintenance Cert. Department Specific Licenses and Certifications: Travel Requirements: 40% Transit to various work locations Valid Driver's License Required
