Chemistry/ Microbiology/ Hematology - Supervises laboratory personnel in the section. Collects and handles blood specimens. Performs laboratory tests, operates laboratory equipment, and reports results. Participates in quality assurance activities. Facilitates intralaboratory and intra-section communications. Assures adequate scheduling for the section. Manages new employee orientation for the section. Insures section compliance with CLIA guidelines. Supervises inventory and purchase of materials. Participates in problem solving as needed. Develops laboratory tests and writes new standard operating procedures, to be approved by the Laboratory Director. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Transfusion Services Develops laboratory tests and writes standard operating procedures, implements decisions concerning section policy and procedure, all changes must be approved by the Medical Director before implementing; manages new employee orientation for the section; supervises section inventory and purchase of materials; participates in problem solving as needed; collects and handles clinical specimens; assures adequate scheduling for the section; participates in quality assurance activities; insures section compliance with AABB standards and CLIA guidelines; performs all essential testing of the section as needed. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to the age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Performance Expectations: Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and precepted phases of your orientation to your job. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrate the ability to properly utilize laboratory equipment, microscopes, and instrumentation. Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot technical multiple pieces of laboratory equipment, microscopes, and instrumentation. Demonstrate safe laboratory work habits. Demonstrate the ability to multitask and prioritize workload. Demonstrate the ability to perform laboratory tests with precision and accuracy in a timely manner. Demonstrate the ability to follow laboratory guidelines set forth by CLIA. Demonstrate organizational and leadership skills. Qualifications: Education/ Skills Associate degree in medical laboratory technology or equivalent required. Work Experience: Four years as a medical laboratory technologist. Certification/ Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE Eligible for ASCP or other certification in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or other Laboratory Science. Additional Certification/ Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below Basic Life Support Within 30 Days of Employment Preferred Mental Demands: Ability to prioritize and organize tasks, communicate and cooperate with other hospital personnel and blood service staff, perform test procedures, quality control procedures and report results, perform repetitive tasks, problem solve and assure adequate scheduling.
