FY27 - Instructional Specialist, Office of Community Schools

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Community Schools, in the office of Student Engagement and Behavioral Health, the instructional specialist supports the implementation of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Community Schools initiatives in accordance with the Blueprint for Marylands Future at assigned Community School Clusters. The instructional specialist implements professional development for staff and supports sustainable in-school programs in the area assigned. This role is responsible for supporting Community School initiatives within the MCPS Strategic Plan and the Blueprint for Marylands Future (Pillar 4) including assisting individual schools with fidelity of implementation, impact analysis, and application. The instructional specialist will be a member of the district steering committee for community schools and subcommittee lead. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: This is a grant supported position through the Blueprint for Maryland^s Future. Required to plan and attend school meetings and events aligned with the Community School initiatives along with programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by MCEA contract. Knowledge Skills Abilities:Working knowledge of MCPS policies and regulations and strategic priorities related to Community Schools. Familiarity with the Blueprint for Maryland^s Future. Knowledge of integrated well-being best practices. Experience with culturally responsive parent engagement or teaching and learning Working knowledge of agencies and community organizations that are relevant partners to the work of the office. Ability to plan, lead and support training activities. Ability to plan and implement workshops, adult learning, and professional development opportunities for small and large groups. Adept at data analysis and support in meeting planning goals. Demonstrated skill as an effective mentor to teachers. Considerable knowledge of child development and learning. Working knowledge of Community Schools and the components mentioned above in supporting student learning and well-being. Ability to engage with families and community organizations/agencies to support the Community Schools initiative. Knowledge about a variety of instructional and behavioral management strategies appropriate to the needs of students in Community Schools. Education Training Experience:Master^s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in education, social work, public policy, human services, or related social sciences preferred. Documented experience with program implementation. Two years or more experience in community outreach and organizing preferred. Experience working with a diverse group of students in settings related to physical, social and psychological well-being. Demonstrated experience implementing school programming and conducting training and/or professional development. Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, coaching and nurturing teachers, and community stakeholders. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Certificate License:Holds a current Maryland state standard and advanced professional certificate in social work, school counseling, pupil personnel worker, physical/occupational therapy, speech-language pathologist, Administrator I, or teacher.
