Horizons K-8 School, located in south Boulder, has a rich history of academic excellence. Our 372 students are in classes of 21-22 led by an exemplary group of teacher leaders. The school is governed through structures that include faculty, staff, parents and administration. Work samples, assessments, and reflections, along with student-led conferences, replace traditional report cards and grades. Position Description: We have one full-time third and fourth grade multi-age classroom teaching position open for the 26-27 school year. Responsibilities: The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of this position. Positively impact student growth and achievement, using progressive instructional strategies, state standards, and strong knowledge of the appropriate curriculum and content area Effectively manage the learning environment Understand, appreciate, and be responsive to student diversity Participate in professional development for continuous learning Teach multi-age elementary students including chaperoning outdoor education overnight trips Work with families in a partnership role Work collaboratively with colleagues and community Follow state legal requirements and district and charter school building policies and procedures Participate in other school-based activities and responsibilities as required of teacher leaders Attend weekly faculty meetings, team meetings, and some monthly Council meetings Plan and implement units of study in accordance with Horizons K-8 curriculum Qualifications: Required:Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree from an accredited institution Current Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement (or CDE licensure application in process) Highly qualified content and curriculum knowledge Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills Cover letter Preferred:Full time classroom teaching experience Third and fourth grade teaching experience Excellent oral and written communication skills; willingness to communicate frequently with families regarding school curriculum and student progress Experience integrating multicultural issues and diverse perspectives in instruction Knowledge of and deep belief in inclusion in the general education classroom for all students, including those on an IEP, with a 504, ALP, and/or learning English. Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students; ability to build relationships and personalize instruction for students so that all are challenged to learn Deep knowledge of instructional practices that will lead to high levels of student growth and achievement supported by authentic data and assessment Knowledge of grade level standards. Ability to use this when planning and implementing learning experiences Technologically literate, Google applications savvy and motivated to use technology to enhance learning. Previous experience with non-graded, experiential, project-based, integrated, interdisciplinary approaches
