King County Metro Transit's Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transit's Link light rail service and City of Seattle’s streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 44.5-mile route from Federal Way to Lynnwood and a 14.8-mile route from Redmond to International District. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come. Rail Electrical Worker Helper assists journey-level Rail Electrical Workers in the repair, maintenance, and repair of rail traction electrification systems. As the Rail Electrical Worker-Helper, you will: Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment from trucks; may operate and drive line trucks as a backup as required. Inspect and hand equipment and materials to crew workers repairing power lines. Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely around the repair site; alert crew workers of potential hazards. Assist crew workers in trimming trees, shoveling dirt and gravel, and performing other tasks required for maintenance. Assist transit vehicles around work areas. Alert drivers and operators to repair work. Respond to emergency calls for repairs during non-working hours as necessary. Inventory and maintain supplies, tools, and equipment. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Minimum Qualifications: Proficient in the use and maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment relevant to the electrical trade Familiarity with applicable laws, codes, and regulations Strong understanding of occupational hazards and safety practices associated with electrical work Effective oral and written communication abilities Solid foundation in basic mathematics Skilled in operating various power tools and related equipment Capable of working in diverse environments including elevated railways, tunnels, bridges, and track-level sites—indoors, outdoors, and in adverse weather conditions Ability to safely and efficiently perform duties within an active rail transit system Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team Proficient in business software applications, including the Microsoft Office suite. Necessary special requirements:A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. If you possess an out-of-state driver’s license, you must obtain a WA state license within 30 days of hire.
