Maintenance Custodian. Tuesday - Saturday | 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM | ON-SITE - Who We Are:The Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture (MAC) seeks to engage our audiences in the appreciation of art, history, and culture of the Inland Northwest and beyond, through collection stewardship, exhibitions and programs that enrich and inspire. Established in 1916, the MAC is the oldest cultural organization in Spokane, Washington, and serves over 100,000 visitors each year from around the region. The museum collections contain over 63,000 objects, including the largest known collection of Plateau tribes art and artifacts. About the Opportunity:As a Maintenance Custodian at the MAC, you will be the backbone of our campus operations, ensuring our facilities remain pristine, safe, and welcoming for all visitors. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will balance daily custodial services with routine building maintenance, ranging from minor plumbing and electrical repairs to seasonal groundskeeping like snow removal. Beyond technical upkeep, you will play a dynamic role in our museum’s programming by managing event setups and restorations, maintaining equipment, and proactively identifying safety hazards. Your work is essential to upholding our commitment to excellence as a nationally recognized cultural center, directly impacting the visitor experience through the meticulous care of our historic and public spaces.
Duties
Some of What You’ll Enjoy Doing Includes:Execute daily custodial rounds to maintain cleanliness in lobbies, restrooms, and high-traffic areas across all campus buildings. Operate heavy-duty machinery and tools to sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and shampoo various floor surfaces. Manage waste and inventory by emptying trash and recycling while restocking essential supplies like soap and paper products. Perform detailed surface cleaning, including dusting and washing interior windows, glass doors, display cases, and fixtures. Support gallery readiness by ensuring floors and surfaces are meticulously maintained for exhibitions as directed. Execute minor repairs and routine maintenance across building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC troubleshooting, and light carpentry. Maintain facility aesthetics and functionality by patching, painting, and performing preventive tasks while reporting complex issues for escalation. Manage and maintain custodial machinery by performing routine repairs, replacing components, and tracking service logs and supply inventories. Oversee seasonal groundskeeping to ensure visitor safety through snow and ice removal, litter cleanup, and general walkway maintenance. Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Minimum age of eighteen (18). High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Ability to read and write in English. Ability to use a wide range of custodial, maintenance, and facility-support equipment. Preferred Qualification:One (1) year of custodial or facilities experience. Knowledge of maintenance and operation of various custodial equipment. Prior professional housekeeping or custodial experience. Institutional or industrial custodial experience. Customer service experience.
