The Utilities division at the City of Grand Junction is looking for a student interested in entering the field of Wastewater treatment services through an Internship with the City. This position will support the Environmental Lab staff for 20 hours per week during the semesters and up to 40 hours per week during breaks. About the Environmental Lab: The Lab ensures that the Persigo Wastewater Treatment Plant discharges effluent (treated) water that is in compliance with state and federal regulations, which is the number one goal of the Environmental Lab. This goal is achieved through an intense quality control program that requires a well-equipped and highly trained staff of laboratory professionals. In addition to monitoring the wastewater discharge, the Laboratory also analyzes samples for the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program and processes control samples for wastewater operations. What You'll Do:Work with Wastewater Environmental Laboratory staff to gain practical experience and an understanding of laboratory operations, which includes sample collection, general chemistry analysis, and some microbiological analysis. Collect, preserve, and prepare samples for analysis. Operate, clean, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment. What We're Looking For:Coursework and/or experience includes: major coursework in chemistry, biology, or a science-related field is desired. Students with morning availability are strongly encouraged to apply. Degree Requirement:Must be a student at Colorado Mesa University or CMU Tech currently enrolled in an Associate of Applied Science in Water Quality Management or Technical Certificate in Wastewater Treatment. Junior or senior students at Colorado Mesa University currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Civil/ Mechanical Engineering, or Environmental Science who has an interest in the Wastewater field will also be considered.
