Conservation Technician

Treat collection objects and carry out associated documentation. Respond to reports of changes in the condition of collection objects. Assist with gallery maintenance activities. Assist art handlers, registrars and other collection staff members with object handling as needed. Actively participate in cross-departmental teams and projects. Maintain and purchase conservation supplies and assist with general lab up-keep. Assist with some administrative duties, such as maintaining memberships, publication subscriptions, monitoring the general Conservation Lab email account, scheduling for visitors or interviewers. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or the John and Susan Gardner Director of Conservation. Requirements Required. Bachelor's degree. At least one year’s previous experience in the field of conservation. Intention to apply to a graduate program in art conservation. Completion of all, or most, prerequisite coursework in art history, studio art, and chemistry. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks. Demonstrated sense of organization. Experience in the use of database software and digital imaging. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong command of the English language. Ability to lift and/or carry 40 pounds and to work at a height of 13 feet; ability to climb ladders and scaffolding. Commitment to advancing the ISGM’s strategic initiatives.
