AMSTI is the Alabama State Department of Education’s (ALSDE) initiative to improve STEM teaching statewide including improvements in individualized and integrated STEM subjects. ASIM is the high school science component of AMSTI. Regional assignments (schools/districts and grade levels/content areas) will be based on regional needs and are subject to change based on regional data. Salary will be based on education, experience, and the current AMSTI salary schedule for 11-month specialists. - This is a grant-funded position. Initial and continued employment in this position is contingent upon funding by the sponsoring agency. - Sponsorship is not available for this position. Essential Job Duties Professional Learning:Facilitate and/or participate in professional learning for teachers and/or administrators based on assignments and/or LEA needs, including online options; Assist AMSTI-ALSDE in developing and maintaining standardized, pre-approved professional learning offerings and supporting resources for AMSI/ ASIM and/or for the ALSDE, including online options, and submitting them to ALSDE approval; Provide ongoing professional learning to AMSTI/ ASIM teachers, certi?ed AMSTI facilitators, and/or instructional coaches; Assist IH - Es with planning and conducting preservice and continuing education, and outreach activities; Participate in AMSTI/ ASIM professional learning activities and staff meetings conducted by the ALSDE and Site Director, unless prior approval for absence is granted; Educator Support:Provide frequent, ongoing support and coaching to teachers, AMSTI/ ASIM lead teachers, certi?ed AMSTI facilitators, instructional coaches, and/or administrators based on assignments and/or LEA needs as de?ned annually based on data; Assist AMSTI/ ASIM teachers in effectively using common planning time and Professional Learning Communities to improve instruction; Assist in recruiting new AMSTI/ ASIM teachers and/or facilitators; Conduct research on the effects of current math, science, and/or technology practices in AMSTI/ ASIM classrooms, as requested by the ALSDE; Coordinate work through the AMSTI Site Director, collaborate with other specialists, and communicate with all stakeholders;Achieve and maintain pro?ciency in all standards, pedagogical content knowledge, and AMSTI/ ASIM lessons and practices through AMSTI-ALSDE and approved outside professional learning opportunities, based on the AMSTI requirements; Instructional Materials:Work with general and materials managers to make site-level decisions based on teacher needs/requests; Some preparation, delivery, pickup, and maintenance of lesson materials and equipment may be required, including lifting (up to 50 pounds) and driving (box truck or delivery van); Provide feedback to the ALSDE regarding the customization of kits and materials to make them teacher/classroom friendly; General Duties:Maintain records (including financial) and complete paperwork in a timely manner, utilizing structures in Monday.com; Participate in the development, maintenance, and promotion of AMSTI/ ASIM resources according to the resource development and PR requirements; Communicate with AMSTI Site Director, ASIMPI, and ALSDE in advance as it pertains to retirement or resignation plans (Under normal circumstances, a minimum of six-month advance notice is requested); ASIM/ Secondary Science Specialist responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed in all categories above;Specialists may be required to perform other duties as assigned by the AMSTI/ ASIM Site Director or AMSTI-ALSDE, including overnight travel;Perform all other duties as assigned. ADDITIONAL DUTIES:To be determined. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Ability to drive up to 100 miles, one way;Ability to work under tight deadlines;Ability to communicate and work effectively and pleasantly with a variety of individuals and groups, both internally and externally;Successful problem-solving skills;Skills in writing and delivering verbal presentations to adults;Skills in teaching ASIM science lessons and managing ASIM science materials;Ability to effectively interact with a diverse array of staff, faculty, administrators, adult learners, and the public. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in science, science education, and/or a science related field is required;Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred–preferably in science or science education;Minimum of three years of science teaching experience in an Alabama public middle and/or high school(5 years preferred);Knowledge of and experience with AMSTI or ASIM programs is highly preferred;Teacher leader or instructional coaching experience is preferred. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:Valid Alabama Teachers’ Certification in Secondary Science is required;Clear status with FBI and ABI fingerprinting processes is required;Current, valid driver’s license is required.
