The intern will join NLR’s Strategic Energy Analysis Center (SEAC; working alongside researchers who perform a variety of environmental assessments of energy systems. With objective, technology-neutral analysis, SEAC aims to increase understanding of energy policies, markets, resources, technologies, and infrastructure to address U.S. economic, security, and environmental priorities. The Carbon Management Research Intern will support research related to technology evaluations and low-carbon chemical systems. Example activities:Literature reviews on carbon management technologies and bio-based chemical pathways,Research topics including: - Point-source carbon capture (pre- or post-combustion) - Carbon management technologies - Biomass-derived intermediates and bio-based chemicals - Carbon utilization and storageSupport other related analysis in carbon management and techno-economic metrics. This position is open to hybrid positions based in Colorado, or fully remote work arrangements from approved work locations.. Basic Qualifications. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution. Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year. Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution. Post Graduate: Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year. Graduate PhD: Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution. Additional Required Qualifications. Current undergraduate student in Environmental Science, Engineering, Atmospheric Science, or a related field. Strong interest in carbon management technologies and/or environmental monitoring. Basic skills in data handling and technical documentation. Good written communication and oral presentation skills and ability to work collaboratively. Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently on assigned tasks. Preferred Qualifications - Familiarity with carbon management technologies (e.g., DAC, CCS, Bi. CRS). - Experience publishing technical content to technical audiences - Experience presenting in public forums and creation of professional-quality PowerPoint presentations - Experience writing educational materials for diverse student audiences - Exposure to life cycle assessment (LCA) or techno-economic analysis (TEA) is a plus. - Prior experience working on applied research or community science projects. Other Requirements: - Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. - Travel to Kern County or participation in site visits at NLR may be required..
