Responsible for assisting in coordinating, planning, registering participants for programs. Assist with membership recruitment, program evaluations, activity marketing, and administrative duties, including but not limited to; record keeping, reporting, purchasing, and program budgets.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

DUTIESAQUATICS – INSTRUCTION - Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementation of aquatic programs. Perform routine administrative duties, including but not limited to, assist with addressing and resolving customer questions and concerns, provide phone, electronic and face-to-face support to customers, appropriately directing internal and external customers, take payments and issues credits or refunds when appropriate. Recruit and retain Swim Instructor staff. Oversee activities at various locations as appropriate. Assist with recruiting, training, supervising, and directing seasonal staff and participants. Provide care and protection for patrons, including responding immediately to emergencies and administering first aid as necessary. Solicit program evaluations; research and follow up with guests on feedback or concerns, as appropriate. Participate in staff meetings and annual training required by the department and by the State of Texas. Assist in the enforcement of department, site, and program rules and/or regulations, and safety precautions. Maintain activity and registration records; prepare reports as needed. Evaluate programs; provide budgetary and program improvement recommendations p. Complete supply inventory; recommend purchases supplies, equipment, and materials for party programs. Job Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/ CERTIFICATIONS - High School Diploma or equivalent; and,One (1) year recreation and/or related field; and,If Aquatics Concessions/ Gift Shop, one (1) year of cash handling experience; and,If Aquatics Instruction, must possess Water Safety Instructor Certification; and,If Aquatics Instruction, must possess Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification or obtain within six (6) months of employment (online training is not valid); and,OR - Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job. REQUIRED SKILLS/ ABILITIES - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws parks and recreation, as well as City of Denton policies and procedures. Knowledge of leisure, social, health and legal needs of individuals with and without disabilities at all age levels. Knowledge of CPR/ AED first aid procedures. Knowledge of childhood development that supports recreational activities that are organized, age appropriate and maintain interest. Skill in problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Skill at the beginner level, working with Microsoft Office 365, and other software systems to complete work. Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers. Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy. Ability to motivate children and provide appropriate guidance and behavior management. Ability to take charge and identify solutions quickly in emergency situations. Ability to lead and motivate others. Ability to work independently to manage multiple work tasks while balancing competing priorities with attention to detail and in a fast-paced environment. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law). Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification. Must pass a physical examination. Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification designated timeframe outlined for program/within six (6) months of employment (online training is not valid). Must meet the Texas Department of Family and Protective Service (TXDFPS) Minimum Standards of Care for Child-Care Centers within 12 months of employment. If Aquatics Instructor, must possess Water Safety Instructor Certification. If for Preschool positions, must be able to pass FBI fingerprinting and background check as required by TXDFPS childcare licensing. If Preschool, must completed required 24-30 hours of DFPS training. If Preschool to Kindergarten positions, must be able to swim and be prepared to swim in emergencies.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/ Physical Requirements
SAFETY - Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Promptly report unsafe conditions in work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. WORKING CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS - Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes. Tools/ Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; additional items include but are not limited to,swimming equipment including resuscitation mask, other first aid supplies,small hand tools, art supplies, outdoor gear, recreational and sports equipment, tables, chairs, coolers, games, and inflatables. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. Lifting: Lifting no more than 50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds. Environment: Works inside and outside with exposure to inclement weather, heat, cold noise, debris, odor, and chemicals; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours. Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work overtime, nights and/or weekends, as required. Must be available for position trainings during the designated timeframe outlined for program.
