Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for performing maintenance and repairs to facilities, equipment, and grounds for Bear Creek State Park. Supports the execution of the park safety program as the Site Safety Officer (SSO). Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, trailers, mowers, and power tools. Distributes herbicides/pesticides in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations. Performs natural and cultural resource management tasks to include trail work, historic building preservation, and invasive species control via herbicide and manual removal. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Graduation from High School or GED. Experience:Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience. Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a First Aid and CPR certification. Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid State driver’s license. NOTE: Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and certification. ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:Experience:Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experience:Experience working with the public. Licensure:Possession of a valid Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License. Current First Aid certification. Current CPR certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, equipment, and vehicle repairs. Knowledge of general maintenance techniques and minor repairs of facilities and equipment. Knowledge of general custodial work and housekeeping. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Knowledge of safety principles, practices, and risk management techniques. Knowledge of invasive plant species control techniques. Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems. Knowledge of building materials. Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, vehicles, welders, generators, and other mechanical equipment. Skill in mechanical repairs to equipment and vehicles. Skill in training others. Skill in records management. Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts. Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision. Ability to identify risks and implement corrective actions. Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple and changing priorities. Ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to operate and maintain equipment and vehicles. Ability to assist with interpreting and enforcing park rules and regulations. Ability to apply pesticide and herbicides in a safe manner and in accordance to State and Federal regulations. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to work from drawings, diagrams, or blueprints. Ability to estimate materials. Ability to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Ability to provide guidance to others. Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs. Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.
