The Hennepin County Library is hiring a Principal Accountant to join our team. Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Ridgedale Library 12601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka, MN 55305, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with flexibility in hours. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire. About the position type:This is a full-time, benefit-earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Hennepin County to apply for this position. In this position, you will:Work with county departments, government agencies, external auditors, or vendors to provide leadership or coordinate efforts to complete accounting related tasks and resolve problems and issues. Plan, lead, and participate in special projects and assist department staff in matters relating to accounting, cash management, and other financial management topics. Verify compliance with processes, procedures, and the accuracy of complex accounting and other financial information. Prepare, analyze, approve, and reconcile complex and specialized journal entries, financial transactions, cash management, or reconciliations. Supervise and review the work of employees engaged in accounting, budget planning, and forecasting activities; may hire, train, and evaluate staff. Supervise a complex segment or sub-system of a financial reporting system, including updating, analyzing, and monitoring various information systems within divisions/sections. Plan, conduct, and/or supervise complex accounting and information systems, and/or audits. Need to have:One of the following:Eight years or more of experience as an accountant or auditor, two of which are in a functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management related to the position. Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting or other specialty area related to the position and four years of experience as an accountant or auditor, two of which are in a functional area of accounting, auditing, or financial management related to the position. Nice to have:Experience with:Financial reporting and analysis for assigned budget areas, including budget preparation, forecasting and budget reporting. Purchase card approvals, working with cash management systems, labor tracking, and grant and program analysis and reporting. Library financial management. Supervising accounting staff. Evaluating difficult accounting problems; analyzing and interpreting complex accounting records. Knowledge of:Accounting principles, theories, and procedures. Auditing standards and procedures. Federal/state compliance requirements. Financial applications including, Microsoft Excel and Word, and accounting system/audit management software. Ability to:Adapt accounting procedures to a variety of situations; prepare or supervise the preparation of complex financial reports. Plan, assign and supervise the work of a staff engaged in routine or complex accounting/auditing activities. Communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of management. Establish positive working relationships with staff, clients, vendors, and the public. Understand and follow complex written and verbal instructions.
