The English Program at Colorado Mesa University invites applications for a Visiting Instructor of English. Candidates are expected to teach the department’s current offerings in first-year composition, introduction to literature, and mythology. The ideal candidate will have pedagogical experience teaching first-year writing and lower-division literature courses that support students' development of college-level reading and writing skills. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught on-line, hybrid, or via distance delivery modalities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Job responsibilities include the following, with other duties potentially assigned:Teach first year writing courses, primarily ENGL 1111 and 112. - Teach other courses as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively. Successful experience teaching first year composition courses. Graduate level course work in composition and literature. Effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Desire and ability to work collaboratively with university faculty and staff. Preferred Qualifications:PhD in English or related field. Theoretical background in composition instruction. Demonstrated ability to teach first year composition and lower level literature courses.
