Uses manual equipment such as shovels, hoes, rakes and hand saws to perform general grounds maintenance including digging, raking, leveling, planting, fertilizing, spraying pesticides and pruning trees and shrubs. Drives pick-up trucks, tractors and other motor vehicles with heavy equipment attached; operates professional type spray equipment, push mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, chain saws and other equipment. Cleans and maintains equipment. Responsible to learn and follow all safety rules, regulations and requirements. May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events. Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:Highschool diploma or GED equivalent preferred; AND - Two (2) years of landscape maintenance experience; experience operating light equipment used in maintenance is required, demonstrated ability to identify various plants and weeds is required; OR - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. One of the following certifications is preferred: Texas Certified Landscape Professional (TCLP), Texas Certified Nursery Professional (TCNP), Texas Water Smart Certification (TWSCP), Texas Department of Agriculture Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (TDA). Conditions of Employment:Minimum one year of exemplary in-house direct on the job training (in-house candidates only). Safe driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License. Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of work safety policies, procedures, and protocols. Knowledge of materials and tools used to perform landscape maintenance.
Supplemental Information
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT - Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and requires moderate physical exertion and exposure to dangerous tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals and pesticides. This is a nonexempt position. Routine schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise. May be required to work overtime if needed.
