The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching the assigned career and technical subject(s) to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include but will not be limited to the following: Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subject(s), utilizing various teaching techniques and activities to assist students with their educational advancement. Responsible for the supervision of inmates assigned to the class. Conducts roll calls counts and maintaining attendance records. Counsels and advises individuals regarding their program progress, behavior or personal concern. Continually evaluates students and makes determinations as to overall progress and administers grades and evaluates tests. Salary Incentives: Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually. Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus. REQUIREMENTS: Please note, when submitting a college/university degree, if selected for this position official transcripts will be required. A high school diploma or its equivalent and must have six (6) years of experience in Environmental services OR possess a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in Environmental services; or Possession of current licensure or certification(s) in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate of completion (must submit transcript/certificate of completion) may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire. Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate. SPECIAL NOTE: Successful applicants will be issued a Florida Department of Corrections CTE Temporary Educator’s Certificate. Applicants will have 5 years to obtain the Department of Corrections Educator’s Professional Certificate. A Department of Corrections Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of the Temporary Certificate. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
