Under the general direction of the Hoapili Principal Investigators, the ES 455 C and ES 495 Instructor will provide the following:Co-teach ES 455 C Topics in Comparative Ethnic Conflict: Hawaiian Sovereignty in Pacific Context to Native Hawaiian students in the NHSS sheltered field school program (Summer Session 1)Teach ES 495 Hawaii?s Labor History to Native Hawaiian students in the NHSS sheltered summer institute program. Incorporate traditional Hawaiian knowledge and texts into the curriculum. Other related tasks and/or duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:Master’s degree in Hawaiian Studies, Language, Political Science, Education, Ethnic Studies, or closely related field. Teaching experience in college level courses. Experience in the field of Native Hawaiian or indigenous education. Demonstrated ability to present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing and verbally. Desired Qualifications:PhD in Political Science, Education or closely related field. Evidence of ability to teach effectively. Ability to teach Ethnic Studies while teaching toward the learning outcomes of ES 455 C and ES 495 at UH Manoa. Familiarity with a range of perspectives and experiences of Native Hawaiian students in the social sciences. Familiarity with institutional barriers for Native Hawaiian students in higher education and best practices for Native Hawaiian student success.
