We are currently seeking a PFAS LC-MS/ MS Analyst (Environmental Chemistry). This position is an on-site opportunity located in Norwell, Massachusetts. Battelle"s Norwell Analytical Chemistry Services (ACS) Laboratory is a nationally recognized environmental chemistry laboratory specializing in non-routine and complex analyses for government and industrial clients since 1980. This role supports high-complexity PFAS analyses conducted in accordance with EPA Methods 1633 A, 533, and 537.1. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, technical excellence, and the ability to work independently within a regulated, quality-driven laboratory environment. This role directly supports Battelle"s mission to deliver high-confidence, defensible PFAS data for environmental decision-making. Responsibilities. As an LC MS/ MS Analyst \u 2013 PFAS / Environmental Chemistry, the selected individual will perform advanced PFAS analyses across complex environmental matrices while maintaining rigorous data quality and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities may include:Perform PFAS sample analysis in environmental and drinking water matrices using LC MS/ MS in accordance with EPA Methods 1633 A, 533, and 537.1, including aqueous, solid, and complex matrices as applicableSupport method optimization, validation activities, and technical problem-solving related to PFAS analysis, matrix complexity, and evolving regulatory requirements. Review analytical data for compliance with method acceptance criteria; evaluate accuracy, precision, recovery, and interference; and identify potential contamination or system-derived PFAS issues. Generate complete, audit-defensible PFAS data packages, including qualitative and quantitative evaluation, QC summaries, and narrative documentation of deviations, troubleshooting, or corrective actions. Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on LC MS/ MS systems, including mitigation of PFAS background contamination (e.g., reagent, solvent, or system contributions). Execute and document all method-required QC elements, including ICV/ CCV, laboratory control samples (LCS), matrix spikes (MS/ MSD), surrogates, internal standard performance, and field and laboratory blanks. Prepare calibration standards, isotope-labeled internal standards, surrogates, laboratory control samples, and method blanks following method-specific requirements and project plans. Prepare and process PFAS data using Multi. Quant, Analyst, or Sciex OS software and enter results and observations into LIMS. Perform moderately complex calculations and data manipulation in support of reporting limits, detection limits, and client-specific deliverables. Track analytical progress against project milestones and communicate scheduling, technical, or data quality risks to the supervisor or project manager. Key Qualifications. Associate degree in Chemistry or a related field with 10 years of analytical laboratory experience, including trace-level environmental analysis. Demonstrated hands-on experience with LC MS/ MS PFAS analysis, including isotope dilution techniques and ultra-trace quantitation. Strong working knowledge of EPA Methods 1633 A, 533, and/or 537.1, including QC requirements, acceptance criteria, and contamination control practices. Experience working in a regulated, quality-system laboratory environment producing legally and scientifically defensible data. Must be a sole U.S. Citizen. Preferred Qualifications. Experience analyzing PFAS in non-routine or complex matrices (e.g., wastewater, leachate, soil, biosolids). Familiarity with PFAS method development or multi-method PFAS program support. Salary Range & Compensation. Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The hourly range for this role is $37 - $52, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package.
