Flats Chicago a Cedar Street Company is seeking a Residential Janitor in Chicago, IL and surrounding suburbs. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, access to or own a personal vehicle, and speak English fluently. This position interacts and communicates with all level of employees at Cedar Street, as well as tenants, contractors and vendors. This position is for a 344 apartment lease in Uptown and therefore should have experience with larger properties. Job Description. The Residential Janitor is responsible for cleaning buildings, removing debris, and keeping areas neat and tidy. Vacuums and buffs floors, shampoos carpets, empties trash receptacles, and replace lining of trash cans. The following proficiencies are necessary for the position. The principal activities are representative and not necessarily all-inclusive. - Must be able to interact with tenants on work order related issues - Sweep and mop rooms, corridors and waiting areas and clean and disinfect surfaces such as floors and counters - Interior and exterior cleanliness of the building - Perform painting, spackling, and minor wall covering repairs - Make minor adjustments and repairs such as changing bulbs or repairing wires - Replacement/installation of ceiling tiles - Perform exterior painting on a variety of masonry surfaces, using air, airless, and hand painting tools - Empty trash receptacles and ensure that they are cleaned properly from the inside - Assisting in the renovation of vacant units - Mow and trim lawns and assist in shaping shrubs using gardening tools - Remove snow from sidewalks and paring areas and display warning signs to alert pedestrians/ drivers of slippery surfaces - Light maintenance - Special projects as assigned - All other assigned duties Requirements - High School diploma required - Vocational or trade school certification preferred - Working knowledge of job-related terminology - Ability to facilitate an ON-Call schedule after-hours - Must provide own vehicle with 24/7 access. Safety - Learn and ensure compliance with all company, local, state and federal safety rules. - Ensure that unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner. - Direct staff to follow a “safety first” principle.
