About the Work Unit. The Region 5 Materials Team in Durango provides project development, construction management, and materials engineering and management for transportation projects in the Southwest, Gunnison, and San Luis Valley Transportation Planning Regions (TPR) and adjoining counties. About the Position. As the Materials Testing Technician, classified as Engineering/ Physical Sciences Technician I, you will provide support to engineers in preconstruction, construction, and materials testing and inspection of transportation projects. Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following. Perform testing, as per the Materials Manuals, on materials incorporated into a project to confirm compliance with plans and specifications. Perform drilling and coring of roadways and document results and findings. Maintain the Region Lab and assist in ensuring Round Robin results are satisfactory and Central Lab inspections are satisfactory and pass. Utilize computer software programs that are required for the design and construction management of projects, including LIMS, Site. Manager, Micro-Station, In. Roads, Word, Excel, Adobe, ME Pavement Design, LTPP, Trnsport, SAP, SRM, Real. Cost, Project Wise, Workzone, Mod. TAG, d. TIMS, Sharepoint, and others. Perform construction inspection by visually and physically inspecting the contractor’s work, materials, and methods to assess if they are in compliance with plans and specifications. Measure and document pay items, verifying with the contractor the items that have been placed out on the project. Complete field survey for design utilizing appropriate (GPS, DMI, etc) equipment and then edit and translate the data into a usable format. Prepare and check documentation and calculations using appropriate manuals as guidelines for standardization. Verify all materials certifications as complete and valid, and test results are complete for materials finals documentation on assigned projects. Must abide by all safety regulations, policies and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment. Other job duties as assigned. Work Environment. Your schedule will be Monday – Friday with opportunity for a flexible schedule as approved by the supervisor. You will likely work a hybrid schedule with a combination of in-office and remote work. Extra, weekend and nighttime hours outside normal working hours sometimes required. Regular travel required for project meetings, field inspections and trainings in locations within the state. Out of town travel for multiple days and nights is sometimes required, including up to every week during projects. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. May be exposed to hazardous materials. Required to work outside in all weather conditions, in close proximity to moving traffic, and over variable terrain. Required to operate CDOT vehicles.
