The Geomorphologist will be responsible for exploring new research directions in landscape evolution, geomorphology, critical zone science and interactions between tectonics, climate, and topography. The fellow will engage in data acquisition, interpretation, and reporting in conference presentations and peer-reviewed journals. Further, the fellow will actively mentor graduate students and support grant-writing efforts. Essential Job Duties:Research. Work with colleagues and other members of the Critical Zone Science and Tectonic Geomorphology Lab, to identify topics of interest in landscape dynamics and interactions between landscapes, climate, and tectonics, tailored to the interests of the fellow. Projects that span these sub-disciplines and collaboration with colleagues across CSU and the geosciences are particularly encouraged. The fellow will lead fieldwork, analytical work, or modeling to delve into these topics. The product of this work will be conference presentations and peer-reviewed papers. The fellow will also be expected to assist in developing proposals for submission to external funding agencies. Broader Impacts. Present results at scientific meetings, to researchers from a range of disciplines; develop outreach opportunities to local communities; Assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Professional Development. The fellow will be expected to take advantage of professional development opportunities that may align with the two categories above or may build upon the interests and planned career trajectory of the fellow. Conditions of Employment:Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for all new hires). Legally authorized to work in the United State. CSU will not sponsor a visa. Must possess a valid driver's license by position start date. Supervision:This position will help mentor graduate students and, if applicable, supervise undergraduate research assistants. Minimum Qualifications:Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for a PhD in the Geosciences or a related field within one month of submitting the application. Preferred Qualifications:Have record of publication(s) on landscape evolution, geomorphology, tectonic geomorphology, and/or critical zone science. Experience of coding in Matlab or Python and experience with numerical models. Experience conducting field work and lab work related to Quaternary geochronology (e.g., 14 C, cosmogenic radionuclides, or luminescence geochronology). Experience with interdisciplinary research spanning geoscientific disciplines. Experience working collaboratively with researchers from a wide array of disciplines. Research leadership experience. Salary Range$45,000 to $55,000
