Performs a variety of administrative functions, studies and research projects related to criminal activity; assists in collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from a variety of sources to identify and evaluate crime series, trends and patterns; develops reports on crime series, trends and patterns; assists in preparing crime summaries, statistical reports, spreadsheets, charts, maps, and diagrams. Ability to gather, organize, and analyze narrative and statistical data. Ability to analyze problems, consider options, formulate strategies, and make practical recommendations. Ability to use general and specialized computer applications. Ability to prepare strategic and tactical action forecasts. Ability to develop association matrices; develop victim and suspect profiles. Ability to identify and distinguish crime patterns, trends, and series. Ability to exercise objectivity. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively orally and in writing. Ability to prepare graphs, tables, and statistical charts. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with colleagues, departmental staff, and representatives of other organizations and agencies. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Skill to train and provide technical assistance to others. Skill to work independently with minimal supervision. Skill in research, including Internet usage. Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of statistical analysis including multi-variate, frequency, functional, cluster, correlation, and regression analyses, and probability models. Knowledge of basic human behavior and group dynamics. Knowledge of crime analysis methodologies including cartographic analysis, crime mapping, operations analysis, linking, and profiling. Knowledge of law enforcement operations, procedures, and regulations. Knowledge of techniques and principles of report writing and presentation. Knowledge of standard English grammar and usage. Knowledge of GIS and RMS systems. Must be available for shift work and call out for critical incidents. Physical Abilities: Required to speak and hear clearly. Often required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle or feel. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision. Tasks and Policies Extracts and accurately compiles crime data, information, and statistics from various reports and sources pertaining to selected crimes and/or offenders. Accurately analyzes collected data, detecting and establishing valid crime patterns and trends. Communicates analysis information through written bulletins, reports, charts, and/or graphs. Researches and monitors trends/changes in criminal activity through electronic and traditional media to develop and implement responses and solutions to ongoing or potential criminal activity. Accurately analyzes criminal activities in the community in order to identify specific crime patterns such as the type of crime, time and place of occurrence, and offender identity, with the goal of developing effective means and information/evidence to prevent or solve criminal activity, consistent with agency policies. Successfully completes all assignments to directed specifications, within specified time-frame and budget as directed and in accordance with agency policies and regulations. Provides real time information and investigative support to law enforcement in the field. Successfully complete the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Analyst Academy. Supports plan development and implementation and agency requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned. POLICIES - Arrives on time for work, limits breaks, and lunches to the allotted time, and leaves on time. Uses leave in accordance with General Orders. Communicates and cooperates with management in providing proper notice of leave; patterns and amounts of leave usage (not including legitimate, properly scheduled and approved leave and protected leave). Volume of work accomplished is consistent with position requirements and produced within quality tolerance standards. Willing to contribute ideas and actions without being prompted or instructed to do so. Willing to adapt to changes. Works with other team members to achieve group goals by contributing ideas in group settings, accepting ideas contributed by others, operating within team rules, participating in team meetings, working with team members to improve job knowledge and skills, putting team goals over personal goals, and supporting team leaders once decisions are made. Follows standard office procedures, safety policies and procedures and agency General Orders. Maintains good interpersonal relations (the manner in which the employee responds emotionally and verbally) with the public, other employees, and supervisors. This policy also relates to the image the employee projects and includes cleanliness and personal grooming. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required, or equivalent law enforcement analyst work experience required. Completion of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Analyst Academy, Out of State Certified Crime Analyst or college coursework in criminal justice preferred. Must be able to work flexible hours/schedules including nights and rotations. Valid Florida driver license required.
