Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory/ Technical Assistant Casual for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Among the key duties of the position are the following: Collects field samples and performs laboratory evaluations of Peach and Nectarine fruit samples from the Peach Variety Evaluation project. Assists with the evaluation of grape fruits chemistry in the laboratory during harvest. Payroll Designation PeopleSoft Terms of Appointment Temporary Staff Appointment - Hourly Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree. Applicants who have not yet received their bachelor’s degree may apply and will be considered, but the degree must be conferred by the date of hire. Certifications/ Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic chemistry and knowledge of laboratory equipment. Strong writing skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with processing fruit samples. Equipment Utilized Titrator meter, Refractometer, fruit firmness penetrometer. Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. of samples during the harvest season.
