This recruitment will be used to fill up to 100 part-time (a max of 20/24 hours per week) Student Food Service positions for Dining Centers, coffee shop and store locations across campus within University Housing and Dining Services in Corvallis. Note that many of these locations will require weekend hours and only a few are Monday-Friday. See food.oregonstate.edu. Applicants must be able to work Spring term and return for Fall term. Do NOT expect work to be available during the summer. In this position, students learn and build vital career-readiness skills in the primary areas below: Communication, Critical Thinking, Teamwork, Career & Self-Development Position Duties Communication Must provide exceptional, attentive customer service. Assist customers and answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, allergens, and current prices. Communicate clearly and respectfully with supervisors, teammates, guests, and vendors. Provide and update availability as required by hiring supervisor. Communicate time-off needs no later than 2 weeks prior. Critical Thinking Learn to cook and prepare menu items using raw products and meats as well as most common food allergens, including gluten. Learn to use food service equipment including knives. Accurately portion, assemble, and serve menu items to order, including special diet accommodations, ensuring quality, and safety. Take initiative during slow periods to ensure café/store/restaurant is prepared for the next rush and maintain cleanliness and organization. Operate point-of-sale systems with precision, ensuring 100% accuracy in cash, OSU ID, and credit card transactions. Follow all food safety policies and regulations consistently and responsibly. Uphold high standards of care when handling food service equipment and Starship devices and maintain/clean as directed. Teamwork Demonstrate good teamwork by learning and efficiently completing any task in assigned work unit. Assist in all aspects of food preparation, service, storage, and transportation of hot and cold items, including raw and prepared foods, to ensure quality and compliance with health standards. Support team members and kitchen operations by performing dishwashing, equipment sanitation, and routine cleaning tasks to uphold a safe, organized, and hygienic work environment. Assist with conflict resolution and contribute to a positive work environment. Career & Self Development Review and submit an ethical, honest timesheet meeting required deadlines every month. Demonstrate reliability, adaptability and professionalism. Become accomplished at offering an item that goes with what has already been ordered. Serve as a responsible on-site representative of Dining by modeling behavior in alignment with policies. Manage emotions when interacting with guests, coworkers and vendors to maintain professionalism. Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term - Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term - - International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Must be able to understand both written and verbal instruction, to ensure employee and guest safety. Preferred (Special) Qualifications previous work experience. Availability at lunch time Monday thru Thursday at least 2 days per week Working Conditions / Work Schedule Valid Oregon Food Handlers Certificate within 30 day of employment and must maintain a food handler’s card while employed with UHDS.
