Reporting to the Senior Department Administrator, the Department Administrator uses skills as a seasoned and experienced administrative operations professional to manage, plan, and administer the operations of The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS) in support of the department’s academic and research programs. Administrative operations include budgetary financial management, financial reporting, travel and expense reimbursement, purchasing, human resources, academic personnel, research, IT, facilities, student affairs, assessment, curriculum, events, and communications related to the department. Performs short- and long-term planning for the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic plans of the department and school. Researches solutions and provides recommendations, showing good judgement. Proactively identifies opportunities for faculty (e.g., research or media relations), and provides day-to-day support to faculty to resolve a wide range of requests. May supervise staff and/or students. Partners with the Snr Dept Administrator, Chair, and DPS faculty to develop strategic goals, identify opportunities for improvement, and align people, processes, and technology to further the department’s tripartite mission. What It Takes to be Successful Required: Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management. Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training 6 to 9 years of relevant experience Preferred: Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines. Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees. Total Rewards
