The Innovation Center is hiring in-person student staff (up to 4 positions) for summer 2026 and the 2026-27 academic year. The Student Office Assistant will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to Innovation Center clients, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include greeting and directing visitors, answering telephones, scheduling conference rooms, handling client packages, updating documents and signage, updating social media accounts, copying, cleaning, and other assigned duties. Ideally we would like to hire two students to start during the summer and possibly two more students to start in the Fall semester. The Innovation Center (IC), located at 340. W. State Street is part of Ohio University’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and the university-wide initiative to encourage and support economic development through entrepreneurship and small business support. In its 36,000 square foot facility, the IC nurtures startup companies, providing them with the space, services, and resources necessary to launch and grow. Most of the Southeast Ohio region’s major employers have benefitted from assistance from the IC. The IC has a long tradition of excellence and has been recognized for its work. In 2015, the IC was ranked the third best university-based incubator in the U.S.; in 2016, it was named Rural Incubator of the Year; in 2019, it was named the Incubator of the Year; and, in 2022, it was again named the Rural Incubator of the Year. Job Profile Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:Provides administrative support in an office setting, including tasks such as answering phones and emails, responding to customer inquiries, writing communications, and supporting staff with day-to-day operations. Level Summary Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments. Supervisory Responsibilities: Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers. Fiscal Responsibilities: No budgetary responsibility. Problem Solving: Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision. Independence of Action: Works under close supervision. Communication and Collaboration: Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks. Minimum Qualifications Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements. Preferred Qualifications Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite, and Google Docs. Experience updating social media sites. Good proofreading skills and attention to detail. Friendly, reliable, and outgoing. Able to start immediately and work throughout the academic year. Working Condition/ Physical Demands: This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs. All shifts will be during this time frame and will accommodate students’ class schedules.
