Prince William County’s Department of Development Services is offering creative, challenging, and rewarding work as a Residential Combination Inspector. We are looking for customer-service-minded individuals for our Inspections Branch to provide high-quality service to our customers while embracing their essential role as “first preventers.” This position offers paid training and County-sponsored educational opportunities! About This Role: Perform residential and commercial construction inspections. Conduct project research. Write inspection reports. Perform data entry into the Ener. Gov Permitting System. Assist customers in navigating the different programs required for permitting and inspecting construction-related projects. Brainstorm different approaches to resolve customer issues. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience. Preferences: 3 years of construction and/or building code experience. Experience in inspecting residential and/or commercial structures to applicable code standards. Certified in at least one building trade. Good to above average computer skills. Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret applicable codes. Ability to interpret plans, specifications and/or blueprints. Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass a DMV check. Work Schedule:This position works a standard Monday-Friday schedule, working 37.5 hours per week. This position does not offer telework. Special Requirements: Successful completion of a DMV Check. Successful completion of a Pre-Employment Physical. Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official within 18 months of employment and certified as a Virginia Residential Combination Inspector within 36 months of employment.
