The Mental Wellness Counselor at Pfeiffer University plays a vital role in advancing the University's mission to educate students for lives of purpose, service, and leadership. As part of a student-focused community, this position provides compassionate, ethical, and developmentally appropriate mental health services that support the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth of students. The Staff Counselor contributes to a campus culture of care by promoting well-being, fostering resilience, and supporting students as they navigate personal challenges within a close-knit, values-driven environment. Responsibilities: A. Clinical Counseling & Holistic Student Care - Provide short-term individual and group counseling to students, addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, identity development, academic stress, and life transitions. - Conduct intake assessments and develop treatment plans that reflect a holistic understanding of student well-being. - Support students in integrating personal, academic, and (when appropriate) spiritual dimensions of their growth. - Maintain timely and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with professional and legal standards. B. Crisis Response & Student Well-Being - Provide crisis assessment and intervention for students experiencing acute distress. - Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., Residence Life, Campus Police, Student Development) to ensure coordinated and compassionate responses. - Participate in an on-call or after-hours support rotation, as needed in a residential campus environment. C. Outreach, Prevention & Campus Engagement - Design and facilitate outreach programs that promote mental health awareness, resilience, and healthy living. - Partner with Residence Life, Athletics, Campus Ministry, and student organizations to extend counseling services across campus. - Contribute to a campus culture that encourages care for self and others, reduces stigma, and reflects Pfeiffer's commitment to community and belonging. D. Consultation & Collaboration - Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, and administrators in supporting students of concern. - Participate in multidisciplinary teams focused on student success, retention, and well-being. - Engage actively in the life of the University, contributing to its mission-centered and relational campus environment. E. Ethical Practice & Professional Growth - Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession and all applicable laws and regulations. - Maintain appropriate licensure and engage in ongoing professional development. - Support continuous improvement efforts within Counseling Services.
