QUALIFICATIONS:Appropriate NJ Speech Language Specialist Certificate. License or other legal credential required by the State of New Jersey. RESPONSIBILITIES:Consult with pupils, parents and staff regarding corrective programs including pre-referral interventions where appropriate. Provide services to the general education staff regarding techniques, materials and programs for students experiencing difficulties in learning. Screen and (when appropriate) evaluate all students during the primary grades, new students, those having previously received speech correction and others referred by teachers, administrators or other pupil services staff for speech disorders. When necessary, cooperate with Child Study Team in planning evaluations and planning and implementing special education programs involving speech/language services. Prepare speech/language assessment reports and explain them to parents and staff. Develop and administer a corrective program for students demonstrating speech/language disorders and prepare periodic reports on pupil progress. Serve as a case manager for students with disabilities by coordinating the development, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of IEP\s. Provide preventive and support services to students with disabilities. Maintain contacts with other professionals in the field of speech therapy and special education.
