The CMU Center for Teach Education Supervisors act as a liaison between the participating schools and the Center for Teacher Education. This includes communication with cooperating teachers, teacher candidates, and the respective program coordinator. This position is part-time, requiring approximately 10 meetings with the student over the course of 2 semesters. Supervisors are typically assigned 1-3 students to work with at a time. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. In addition, this position is a pooled position and hiring will be done on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate lives in Western Colorado. Duties and Responsibilities:Establish and maintain positive relationships between the cooperating teacher, the school and the University and its teacher education programs. Help student teachers, cooperating teachers, and other school personnel understand the expectations of the student teaching experience. Facilitate the candidate’s implementation of skills and strategies needed to begin their participation in the classroom. Make regularly scheduled observation visits during the student teaching placement. More observation visits may be requested if necessary. Assist in the professional growth and development of the teacher candidate’s knowledge, skills and dispositions. University supervisors must observe a teacher candidate at least four times in the student teaching period; however, University supervisors will visit more frequently if necessary. After each observation, the University supervisor will confer with the teacher candidate and give a written report of the observation to the teacher candidate, the cooperating teacher and submit to the program coordinator. Communicate with the cooperating teacher about the teacher candidate’s progress at each observation. Be candid with the teacher candidate and cooperating teacher about the candidate’s progress. Assist the cooperating teacher in dealing with problems they may be experiencing. Assist the teacher candidate in dealing with problems they may be experiencing. Salary: $100 for pre-internship and $500 for internship per student supervised. Commensurate with education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree, National Board Certification, administrative experience, experience mentoring student teachers, current or previous teaching license in the content area.
