Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in construction, operation, repairs, maintenance, and replacement of City street, and storm drainage systems to include landscaping duties.
Essential Job Functions
This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. Assists with the repair or installation of storm water and irrigation systems and components. Performs ground maintenance activities including planting, mowing, sodding, weeding, etc. Sweeps walkways and removes refuse and debris from grounds, waste containers, buildings and parking lots. Operates maintenance equipment including pickup trucks, riding lawn mowers, weed eaters, and related equipment. Performs manual labor and other minor tasks. Assists in the repairs of dips, potholes, and other road obstructions including replacing asphalt as necessary. Cleans City canals, catch basins, and drains of debris as needed. Assists in the repairs and maintenance of City sidewalks and curbing. Operates a variety of power equipment as required for the job.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Some knowledge of equipment materials, methods and procedures used in ground maintenance, storm water, or street maintenance, depending on the location of the position. Skilled in operation of the required tools and equipment. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to work safely. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to operate motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, skid loader, and chainsaws and other tools and equipment is desirable. Education & Experience Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year in ground maintenance/landscaping, stormwater and streets, depending on the location of the position, preferred. Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License throughout employment.
